Merry Mainstreet Steamboat Springs

by Sage Local on December 11, 2012

Merry Mainstreet in Steamboat Springs was a bit extra special this year.  With many in town going to extremes in their superstitions in how to get snow to fall (burning skis as an offering to the ‘gods’, putting trailmaps in their freezers to encourage the trails themselves to freeze, to rather elaborate, and entertaining dances) it was a welcome change for large snowflakes to be heavily falling throughout shopping.  For those unfamiliar, Merry Mainstreet in Steamboat is an evening where Lincoln Ave is closed between Fifth and 11th streets from 5 until 8 p.m., and downtown stores are decorated in the theme of various holiday songs like “Frosty the Snowman” or “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”

The event gives holiday shoppers the opportunity to shop in a low-key, fun environment while enjoying some fun downtown activities.  The event features a Santa Light Parade, Gingerbread House Contest, Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt & for the adults, a Santa Pub Crawl.
