I spent this weekend trying a different type of skiing. With the weather steadily warming, and me having promised myself i would give skate skiing a try, i headed out to rent some skis. After picking up a pair of very skinny skis I drove out to Catamount Lake, figuring that the flatter land would bode my beginner legs well. Having watched Steamboat’s success with Johnny Spillane and Todd Lodwick in the Olympics i was excited to get out and give it my best attempt. It was definitely a bit harder than i had initially thought. But it was a great experience. I was up again early Sunday morning and this time over at the Ski Touring Center, the Golf Course in the middle of the Sanctuary, for about 2 hours, exploring all the trails. With the snow a bit slushy it was great for continuing to learn, making it easier to hold my balance around the downhill turns. Definitely recommended for anyone visiting Steamboat whether you are solo or with a group, super fun!
