While the weather in Steamboat has not provided us with the amount of snow we have become accustomed to after the past few years, there still are stashes of fresh snow out there. You just have to look a bit harder than usual. I went up to Buff Pass with a few friends last Thursday and couldn’t believe it had taken me this long to ski over there. Buff Pass is an area a few miles outside of downtown Steamboat that is locally renowned as a great place for backcountry skiing
We took two snowmobiles up the pass and were pleasantly surprised to see 6-12 in of untouched fresh powder covering the line we wanted to ski. Despite the lack of snow we had a great time skiing all morning. Being my first time skiing with a sled, i was just as excited to get pulled back up to the top of the run (on a rope behind the snowmobile) as i was to ski down. Overall a great time. And with snow in the forecast for 8 out of the next 10 days, we will hopefully get some more powder skiing in soon!
