Another season quickly flew by and the Steamboat Ski Resort has closed down the gondolas and chairs, officially ending the the 2009-2010 season. And with temps up to 65 yesterday it was perfect timing, summer feeling as though it truly is just around the corner. The weather this year was fantastic all weekend with slushy spring snow sliding around the mountain; it was hard to believe we had just had a storm of 20+ inches only days before. But with the slushy snow, skiing becomes less about making those perfect parallel turns and  more about making those last few runs of the season with your crew of friends. Still pushing each other through the park to stall out a sweet Japan air or just go big one last time it all becomes fun and games. And with the resort providing activities and events throughout the weekend, the fun and laughter seemed to never die. The cardboard classic, pond skim all capped by a season-ending concert by Donavon Frankenreiter, everyone appeared to have a great time. Talking as the sun was setting, we all sat around in shorts and t-shirt already anticipating next years skiing – what lines we’ll hit if the snow comes big, what tricks we will definitely pull and who is going to be the first to take a massive spill. And as the evening came to a close, we proposed a toast – ‘to health, happiness, friends, and crazy fresh pow next year,’ because, as we decided, that is all that truly matters…
