The biking schedule in Steamboat Springs for the summer has been announced and everyone is eager to see the snow melt and the trails begin to dry.  Late spring/early summer should see some action on one of Steamboat’s newer trails on the Backside of Emerald Mountain. Aryeh Copa led efforts in fall to build the new Rotary Trail.  Volunteers got the four-mile trail more than halfway finished last year, though plenty of work remains. Aryeh says ‘We’re hoping to get a big push to get this done this spring when the other trails aren’t dried up yet for local riders.’

The big event for Steamboat this summer will be The USA Pro Cycling Challenge which rides into Steamboat on Aug. 26 and out the next day. As of this point in the spring ‘just what that weekend will look like remains unclear. Riders will come to Steamboat Springs after a stop in Avon and return a day later to Breckenridge. A spokesperson for the race, which was renamed from the Quiznos Pro Challenge, said the actual routes won’t be announced until the middle of next month. While planning has long been under way to make that weekend a great one with music and parties, those details, too, are being firmed up.’

In addition to the Quiznos Pro Challenge, the dozens of local biking events look to continue and grow this summer.  For a full schedule, check the list at the bottom.
